These Friends of Mine in Recovery
I am overwhelmed with gratitude every time I listen to Lisa Crawley's beautiful song and reflect upon the many Anonymous people that have helped me on my journey of recovery.
Addiction is a lonely place to be. Recovery can be lonely too, but over time I have discovered that my friends in recovery are my real friends.
Paradoxically, they are always there to share the positive journey of recovery even though each one of us has to travel this journey alone. We sometimes look back, but only to remind ourselves of how far we've come and to remind ourselves that we never want to go back to the hell of active addiction.
I am enormously proud of my friends in recovery.
These Friends of Mine
You can have all my things
I'm setting sail
Don't know where I'll go
It'll be far away
You'll know when I'll get there
You'll see me smile
Might take a while, but I'll smile
You can take all these friends
Cause I'm traveling alone
They are wonderful
So look after them well
Each one's different as you'll learn in time
I'm so proud of these friends of mine
by Lisa Crawley
You can take my TV
Cause I'm looking elsewhere
I don't quit know where
But it'll be no-where here
It'll take me forward
Not two steps back
I'm done with looking back
You can take all these friends
Cause I'm traveling alone
They are wonderful
So look after them well
Each one is different as you'll learn in time
I'm so proud of these friends of mine
New beginnings cure that ending
Surfacing a smile
The darkness is back there with no warning
You shall fear no more
